Hi! This is Coach MK and THIS is the Morning Mantra.
*cue intro music*
Hi, my name is MK Fleming. I'm a run coach based in Denver, Colorado. But this isn't a podcast about running, exactly. Don't tell my clients, but *whispers* we're never really talking about the running. When you know a crap-tastic event is coming it helps to have a mantra to keep you centered and focused as you move through it. You don't have to be an athlete to be hashtag #coachedandloved by coach MK. And if you are here, then you are hashtag #winningatlife.
*music ends*
Today's Mantra is: True Jackass (The Breakup Mantra)
A few days ago, a client made a comment in one of our private FB groups that caught my attention:
"Got dumped. I feel like crap."
I'm a run coach not a life coach, but a comment like that was meant to be seen, and warrants a response. Here is mine:
"Training is never wasted. Neither are relationships. How we respond to other people tells us everything about ourselves. Last time I got dumped, I learned that my picker was broken. You know that thing inside a compass pointing to true north? Mine pointed to true jackass, to guys who took and took but gave me nothing. I finally learned in therapy that I'"d been taught I had to earn love, that I had to prove worthiness, that the things I had been taught to do in order to earn the approval of caregivers were kinda messed up. The good guys never stood a chance- I didn't see them. They were there, some were interested in me, I just didn't pick them back because my picker was broken, pointing at the next jackass.
Runner, do you see The good thing about this breakup? That jackass got out of the way before wasting any more of your time, and that's actually polite. YAY! Your picker has potential....but it's proably broken. Right now you likely care more about your broken heart, but until you can see a therapist, and I really hope you do, in those moments when you ask yourself, "what's wrong with me?" I want you to hear my voice saying, "Yer PICKER IS BROKEN!"
So: the mantra: Next time you wonder why the people you like just aren't that into you, Hear my voice in the back of your head, saying, "GOOD! Your picker's pointing at true jackass!" And remember that the only part of you that's broken, is a part that's totally fixable."
You are Coached. You are Loooved, and you ARE winning at life. And you're definitely winning at life if you subscribe to my Nuzzel Newsletter, follow me on Facebook or follow me on Instagram. feel free to do all three!
